15:30 – 15:40 Opening

15:40 – 16:40 “Language Leader New Editions: Change and Innovation”, David Cotton

David Cotton discusses the process of writing a new edition of a successful course for international students of English. He demonstrates that Language Leader New Edition is a highly crafted product designed for the global market. He follows up by presenting the new features of Language Leader New Edition with examples from Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels. He emphasises that not only have changes been made to every section of the coursebooks, but also significant amount of new material has been added to all the levels from Elementary to Advanced. Thus, each level of the new edition is a unique blend of carefully selected material, modern approaches and innovative techniques.

16:40 – 17:40 “Challenges in Teaching and Learning English for Academic Purposes”, Dr. Ken Beatty

Learning English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) is a challenging topic for both teachers and learners. These challenges include the wide variety of discourses and the curricular areas learners are likely to encounter throughout their college or university experience. Often, learners who are preparing (or have already begun) to study disciplines as different as Physics and Fine Arts are huddled together in the same class. This means the teacher needs to offer a broader perspective than general course English for Special Purposes in which it would be natural to offer, for example, English for Nursing to nursing students. The two key questions run as follows: how teachers can choose content that will meet both general and specific needs, and how teachers can provide students with the tools to deal with the vocabulary and structures they are likely to encounter over their academic careers and beyond. This presentation aims to answer both questions with a focus on critical thinking.

17:40-17:50 Closing

Participants will receive Certificates of attendance.
